Concert of the 'Ciclo Esencial Filarmonía 2023|24' in which we return to tradition, with capital letters, through one of the works that can be considered the most traditional and a selection of the best-known zarzuela works that Maestro Pascual Osa will conduct for the enjoyment of those present. Thus, our 'Antología de la Zarzuela' returns.
This complete show will feature the full Symphony Orchestra, a Chorus of over 300 voices, plus the talented Ballet Filarmonía and a small staging on the stage of the National Auditorium.
Zarzuela is a form of theatrical music or stage musical genre that emerged in our country, and in fact it is said that the first authors to contribute to this new style were Lope de Vega and Calderón de la Barca. The latter is also apparently the first playwright to adopt the term "zarzuela". The genre's high point was in the 20th century, when works of the highest musical quality were composed, such as 'Gigantes y Cabezudos', 'El puñado de rosas' and 'Doña Francisquita'.
In addition, zarzuela can also be said to have been successful beyond Spain, and in some Latin American countries it was widely produced, with authors such as Gonzalo Roig, Carlos Curti and Ezequiel Soria standing out.
Subsequently, from 1950 onwards, zarzuela survived thanks to discography, and very successful recordings were produced, mostly directed by the Spanish musician Ataúlfo Argenta.
